Hole #17: Drone Flyover & Tips for Play

July 12, 2024

Las Sendas Golf Club’s seventeenth hole is a relatively short (359 yards from the silver tees, 245 yards from the copper tees) par four. But, don’t let the tee-to-green distance fool you—hole seventeen’s green complex is arguably the most challenging at Las Sendas.

Tee Shot: Two Strategies

There are two basic tee shot strategies for hole seventeen. Option one involves splitting the fairway bunkers with a long iron or fairway wood, leaving a full short iron shot on your approach. Just be sure to land your ball in the fairway—missing left near the mounds can be especially detrimental to your score. As with other holes at Las Sendas, the “valley effect” can cause your ball to roll into the desert.

For golfers comfortable with shorter chip shots, hitting driver on hole seventeen may be the better option. With this strategy, try flying your ball down the right side of the fairway and landing it in the narrow section near the green. Missing right will put your ball in the rough that’s well below the green’s surface.

Planning Your Approach

If you opted for a long iron or fairway wood off the tee, you’ll probably be chipping over the large bunker that protects the green. Those who hit driver and successfully found the fairway will enjoy a shorter approach.

Most golfers will not be able to see the green’s surface when making their approach. And, unfortunately, there’s not a lot of room for error due to the surrounding desert area, two greenside bunkers, and elevated green that falls off on all sides.

One of Las Sendas’ Most Difficult Greens

Hole seventeen’s green is the most sloped green at Las Sendas, sloping dramatically from back-right to the front-left side. Common pin placements include back-right, front-middle, and far left. Completing this hole with a two-putt should be considered a big victory.
