Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to play golf?

Cost depends on multiple factors, including when and where you play. Municipal golf courses are usually less expensive than elite clubs. Season and time of day matter, too. Teeing off at 8 a.m. on a crisp Saturday morning will be pricier than 3 p.m. on a sweltering summer weekday. Many golf courses publish their rates online. View rates for Las Sendas Golf Club.

Am I too old to start golfing?

Golf is a lifetime sport and accessible to people young and old. In fact, golf is one of the few sports that people of different generations can enjoy simultaneously. We offer six sets of tee boxes at Las Sendas Golf Club, ranging in distance from 5,188 to 7,004 yards. Play the tee boxes that suit your game (and age!)

Do I have to be a member of a club to play?

Municipal and many semi-private golf courses (like Las Sendas Golf Club) allow the general public to make tee times. However, some private and country clubs require membership. It is a good idea to check the golf course’s website or call the pro shop if you’re not sure.

Do I need to buy clubs?

No, you do not need to buy clubs to begin playing golf. Renting clubs is a smart way to get started with the game. Learn more in our blog post, Which Golf Clubs are Right for Me?

Do I need lessons?

Although not required, taking lessons is usually well worth the investment. A qualified instructor can guide you through the fundamentals and demonstrate the proper way to approach the ball, grip the club, and take a swing. Gaining a basic understanding of the rules, pace of play, and golf etiquette is another benefit.

What is golf etiquette?

Golf etiquette includes certain “unwritten rules” that, when followed, make life pleasant for other golfers. For example, it is considered poor etiquette to hit into the group in front of you, play slowly, leave footprints in sand traps, and walk through another golfer’s “line.” Etiquette can be learned the “hard way” (by making mistakes) or through proper instruction.

How do I make a tee time?

Most golf courses offer the ability to book a tee time online. Or, if you prefer, you can call the pro shop to make your reservation. Speaking to someone in the pro shop can be a smart idea if you have questions about course conditions, especially during maintenance months.

When is the best time to play?

Many people come to Arizona to play golf during the winter. When other parts of the country are covered with ice and snow, golfers can enjoy near-perfect temperatures and playing conditions. Playing during “peak season” comes with a tradeoff—your round will likely be more expensive due to supply and demand. If you’re looking for lower fees, consider playing during non-peak seasons (for us, that’s during the heat of summer).

How do I learn the rules of golf?

One of the best ways to learn the rules of golf is by taking lessons from a qualified professional. Some instructors take students onto the golf course for “play and learn” sessions, which can be especially helpful. We also recommend downloading the USGA Rules of Golf mobile app.

What if I don’t have a foursome?

Many courses let singles play, especially in the afternoon or during other non-peak hours. Keep in mind that some courses may pair you up with other golfers depending on demand.
